Customer Testimonials (Happy Monsters)

"I trust Lon. Before becoming a Monster in November of 2012 I was a casual runner without any goals, and I wanted to change that. The realization I couldn't do this on my own set in quickly. When I contacted Aerobic Monster I said, in sum, "Here is my reality, what can you do with that?" It was a joy to work with Lon to set goals. And what a relief to hand the burden of training plan creation to a pro. First we targeted a half marathon, then a couple marathons, then we hit the trails and I've been running 50k's in preparation for my first 50 miler.

Based upon the training feedback I provide, Lon has been able to uncannily predict how I will feel during training and in specific events. Coach and runner are in sync enough so I enter each run physically and mentally prepared. Lon has been able to adjust the plan in response to physical needs and the needs of life and family, like adding more recovery so a minor ache won't grow into a serious injury and shifting runs to accommodate life events. It is a wonderful feeling to be gently realigned into the center of the training plan without the stress of figuring out the optimum path. If doing it alone is not for you, trust Lon." - David M.

A few years ago when I became interested in triathlon there was really only one person

to turn to, Lon. Lon has a passion for the sport and a wealth of experience to draw from

in guiding you to your goals. He has been very adept at creating a plan that works around

the rest of my life, a plan that has allowed me to meet my goals yet not create a burden on

my work and family.

Lon has always found the perfect balance between giving an honest assessment of my

efforts and encouragement to improve. This is a key element to coaching successfully.

On top of this he provides valuable advice on recovery, nutrition and the psychological

demands of racing. Without a doubt I would not have finished any of the races I have

tackled without Lon’s guidance. Including half marathons, a 50k, triathlons (including

several half Ironmans) and preparing for a full ironman. I look forward to continuing my

progression with Lon.

"I'm a senior (72) female runner who has been running about six years and being coached by Aerobic Monsters for the last year. I was introduced to Aerobic Monster coaching by a friend because I was over trained - very tired with constantly burning quads. Lon set up a schedule with only three days of running. OMG! and three days of cross-training. I would never have done this on my own but I made a commitment and I kept to it. It took a couple of months to recover from the over training but Lon's schedule worked. I am now working with Justine and still doing 3 days running, 3 days cross-training. I do trail running and I wanted to get faster on the hills. Justine has added some hill training and some speedwork to my schedule. My new training scheduled has helped a lot. For me working with a person is much better than relying on a computer generated training plan. Justine reads my notes and emails and adjusts the following week's plan if needed, increasing or decreasing the distance and/or intensity. Working with the Aerobic Monsters has been very enjoyable and really has helped my running and well-being." - Betty B.
"I've been a basic fitness runner my whole life, but at the age of 49 I decided to explore distance running. Under Lon and Justine's guidance I've gone from 10k's to running my first 50 mile race in just 2 years! In 2013 I ran a 50K every 2 months leading up to the Fire trails 50 mile race in October. In that time I relied on their expert knowledge on the latest sports fitness and nutrition. They supplied a thorough workout schedule, advice, and encouragement and kept me from overtraining. Now with their help I’m looking forward to my next 50 mile race and eventually longer distances.” Tim Quinn

"When my name was drawn in the Western States Endurance Run lottery, I knew I would have to step up my game. This might be my only chance to finish the race, and finishing was definitely not assured. So I decided to ask Lon Freeman if he would coach me. This was a good choice as Lon is intimately familiar with the race.

I consider myself a student of the sport and knowledgeable about exercise physiology. But being self-coached means perhaps being blind to my shortcomings. It was time to swallow my pride and ask for help. I have a very good idea of how to train for WS100, but right away Lon found some holes in my training. Even more importantly, Lon also knew when I was trying to do too much. If I strayed from his recommendations, I would usually discover the error of my ways. Lon got me to the starting line well prepared and yet well rested and ready to race.

The result – I finished nearly an hour faster than I thought I was capable of! Thanks Lon!" - David Elsbernd, after the 2012 Western States 100 mile trail run

"Justine customized a training plan for my first sprint triathlon which was three weeks before my wedding.  She helped me understand which workouts were flexible to fit in with my crazy schedule, and which ones were most important to build up a strong fitness base.  Justine also sent me a short guide for how to do a sprint tri, with a packing list, nutrition and hydration timing, and hints to speed up transitions.  I was so happy when I actually won my age group on race day!" - Megan Kromer
"Lon, I can’t thank you enough. Consider me extremely satisfied with your training plan and your consistent advice to back off! I can’t even begin to tell you what a wonderful experience I had at Western States. My legs seriously never left me. After Dusty Corners I was passed twice the rest of the race, and I picked off 125 or so people.  I want to do it again!" - Tony Overbay, after the 2010 Western States 100 mile trail run (24:18)

"What was most remarkable about this year’s race was that I actually made it to the starting line.  After illness, travel and a nasty ankle twist killed 6 weeks of training in the heart of my schedule, I was ready to pull out, given that I had not run over 90 minutes with only 7 weeks before the race.  But Lon pulled a rabbit out of his magic running bag and delivered a highly conditional schedule that, if completed, would deliver me ready to run the distance.  It was literally a day-by-day schedule of ‘IF you can do X workout AND your ankle doesn’t hurt THEN do Y workout.’  Over a period of five weeks he took me from 90 minutes to 5 hrs.  It was the steepest ramp-up in running time of my life and culminated in the longest and one of the best training runs in memory.  [At the 2010 Ohlone 50K trail race] my 4:38 was the 6th fastest time in the history of the modern course." - Andrew Sullivan

"In 2005 I was in a bad place, 50lbs overweight, and could hardly run due to constant injury.  Lon suggested I try triathlons to vary my training and to potentially alleviate some of my injury issues from "only" running. His diligent guidance, via training and nutritional plans, through my first couple sprints and half Ironman races was invaluable. Then came the decision to attempt my first Ironman. Lon was behind me 100% and provided the essential guidance to prepare me for Ironman Arizona 2007.
One of the best things about Lon’s training programs is how they are tailored directly to you. Not only did he help craft a plan that enabled me to develop physiologically for the IM distance but his plan allowed me to first and foremost be a married father of 5 kids. He understood the traditional “big weekend” efforts would not work for me, so he developed a plan that allowed me to fit IM training into a very busy schedule.  In April of 07 I found myself, fit (50lbs lighter), healthy and happy at the start line of Ironman Arizona.
Not only did I finish, but I finished 5th in my age group and qualified for the Ironman Hawaii World Championships!! Achieving this feat would never have been feasible without Lon’s detailed training, nutritional and race day plan, not to mention the valuable guidance provided at every phase of the process.  Since IMAZ I have gone on to compete in 3 other Ironmans, 2 Hawaii Ironmans and a 9:12 effort at Ironman Florida 2008. Lon’s coaching style goes well beyond the plan he provides.  The nutritional guidance, mental perspective and innate understanding of injury indicators and prevention have allowed me to achieve goals I never thought imaginable… THANK YOU LON!!!” - Matt Napier
